What is a Native Bird? Museum Lecture Series

Date: 30-3-2017
Time: 7pm

The Museum Lecture Series returns for 2017 with a presentation by Curator of Natural History, Dr Mike Dickison.

In New Zealand we distinguish between native birds (legally protected and often under threat) and introduced birds (almost no legal protection, often hunted or eradicated). But this distinction collapses when we look at the archaeological and fossil record. Some of our birds are self-introduced, some arrived after Polynesians but before Pākehā, and others have ancient roots. “Native good, foreign bad” is too simple a rule for managing our biodiversity; Mike’s arguments may well change the way you view nature and conservation in New Zealand.

Venue: Davis Theatre, Watt St. Supper provided, koha appreciated. For all enquiries please phone 06 349 1110 or email riahk@wrm.org.nz.
