Campylobacteriosis - the long epidemic
CAN WE END IT?
Professor Michael Baker, Dept of Public Health, will describe New Zealand’s most important food safety issue, contaminated chicken, and raise larger questions about what it means and what we can learn from it.
For more than 30 years campylobacteriosis has been the most commonly notified disease in NZ. Its incidence rose markedly from the mid-1980s to the mid-2000s giving NZ the highest rates of acute cases recorded by any country in the world.
• Why are we still not taking sufficient action to end this epidemic?
• What does this epidemic tell us about food safety regulation in NZ?
• Where do we go to from here to improve food safety in NZ?
