Antibiotic Resistance - Who is causing it, vets or doctors?
Nigel French is a distinguished Professor of Food Safety and Veterinary Public Health at Massey University, and Director of the NZ Food Safety Science and Research Centre.
His work with molecular tools and modelling has led to major improvements in the health of New Zealanders, most notably a 50% reduction in the incidence of Campylobacter infections. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand in 2014 in recognition of his work on infectious diseases both in New Zealand and internationally.
- Who uses more antibiotics in New Zealand, vets or doctors?
- What will happen if we run out of effective antibiotics?
- How can we reduce the use of antibiotics - in people? - in animals?
- What will the impact of reducing animal antibiotic use be on human health?
- How can New Zealand contribute to the global struggle to ensure we have effective antibiotics in the future?
